So much information exists about the pertussis and the pertussis vaccine dating back to the 1920s, an entire book could be written solely on this infection and its vaccine. In addition to pertussis vaccination for infants and children, adolescents are now advised to receive a pertussis vaccination booster. Until recently, pregnant women were advised to avoid all types of medications, including over-the-counter meds and herbal preparations. But beginning in 2008, ACIP began recommending the Dtap vaccine at 28 weeks gestation. We will explore the vaccine ingredients and the possible link between two of the many vaccine ingredients – aluminum and gelatin – to allergies.
